Gigs

Saturday 7th October, Oxjam Clapham

Slate Islands will be playing at the wonderful Oxjam Clapham one-day festival, when gigs will be happening at various venues around Clapham right through the afternoon and evening, to help raise money for Oxfam.  (Well, three quarters of us will be playing; we're Al-less, alas, on this occasion.) Tickets are available here and are valid for all events on the day. You can pay on the door on the night, but it's worth booking in advance to take advantage of our special Blang Records discount rate! Check out the full line-up here ...we're playing at The Sun, rounding off the night after a set from the magnificent Scrappy Hood.

Oxjam Clapham @ The Sun, 47 Old Town, Clapham, London SW4 0JL. Saturday 7th October, 9.45 pm

Thursday 1st June, UTTER! Lutonia

Three quarters of the band (minus Al, who's otherwise engaged that night) will be playing at The Hat Factory as part of 'UTTER! Lutonia 15' - 'Luton's very own home for poetry, spoken word, the sharing of ideas, the exchange of wisdom and total freedom of thought and expression'. Hosted by the very fine Lee Nelson (the poet, not the comedian), this promises to be a grand night for language-lovers as well as music-lovers, so come on down! Also on the bill will be wordsmiths Slippy Skills; Mp Yamfam; Nakiliah Tumaini; Grace Froggatt; Ian McEwen . UTTER! Lutonia 15, The Hat Factory, 65-67 Bute Street, Luton LU1 2EY. Thursday 1st June, 7.30pm. £5 / £3 conc.

Saturday 11th February: The Harrison

After an indecently long interval, we return with a London gig - and it's on a Saturday! Come and see us on Saturday 11th February at The Harrison, 28 Harrison Street, King's Cross, London WC1H 8JF, where we're supporting our old pals Albino ("a whisky-fuelled misdemeanour in musical form"). Doors 7.30pm; we're on at 8.45pm. FREE entry.

Wednesday 15th March: Mycenae House

Our Andy is running in this year's London Marathon to raise money for Shelter, the homelessness charity - this is a benefit gig in support of his fundraising efforts. We're sharing the bill with Pete Aves, Rabbit in the Blood, Miss Garbo and Casa. Mycenae House, 90 Mycenae Road, Blackheath, London SE3 7SE. Wednesday 15th March, 7.30pm. Tickets are £8, available here.

If you can't make it to the gig, you can still make a donation via Andy's fundraising page

Sunday 4th October: We Shall Overcome

We Shall Overcome is a nationwide weekend of events in opposition to austerity and in celebration of culture and solidarity. Political but not party political, these events have been organised by performers and promoters giving their time for free to raise money for foodbanks and homelessness charities. Events are taking place all over the country from 2-4 October; we are playing on the Sunday evening at the Ivy House. It's a night of music, comedy, poetry and storytelling, featuring Bonesetter (alternative songs), Janine Booth (political poetry), Keith Jarrett (not the jazz pianist, but the former UK Farrago Poetry Slam champion), Njambi McGrath (hard-hitting comedy & storytelling), Joe Murphy from Sergeant Buzfuz (powerful indie-folk songs), Dave Pickering (storytelling and 'Stand Up Tragedy') and Ant 'The Game Cat' Smith (performance poetry).

We Shall Overcome at The Ivy House, 40 Stuart Road, Nunhead, London SE15 3BE. Sunday 4th October, 6-10pm.

Free entry, with donations (of funds, not food) to the Trussell Trust, a charity which runs over 400 foodbanks. Even if you can't come along on the night, please consider donating via www.JustGiving.com/WSOLONDON
